A missing house number suffix, a postcode from the next town over, a phone number written the way it is read out on an answering machine: harmless one at a time, and together the reason for returns, misrouted parcels and numbers that no longer dial. The Address Sanitizer hooks into saving addresses and contacts and puts both into shape. Addresses go to Google's geocoding interface and come back normalised with coordinates. Phone numbers run through libphonenumber, the reference library for number formats. ### Reconcile addresses through Google On save, Nuxbe sends the address to the geocoding interface and gets the normalised spelling back along with coordinates. If you want it, the system adopts street, postcode and city directly. If you do not, it keeps the coordinates and a preview that puts the address found next to the address entered, with a button to look it up again. ### Phone numbers in one format The three spellings the same mobile number gets entered in become one, in the format you choose: E.164 for interfaces, the national notation for display. Nuxbe derives the country from the address or from the client record. One command works through an existing base in a single pass. ### Website and logo on the contact Website addresses are normalised to https so links out of the system work. On request Nuxbe also fetches the site's favicon and attaches it to the contact as an image, so a company is recognisable by its logo in lists and search results without anyone maintaining pictures. In practiceWhere the clean-up shows ------------------------ ### The import from the old system After a migration the whole base sits there in the previous system's spelling. Two commands walk through it once, one for addresses, one for phone numbers, and write the result back. From then on the clean-up happens on save. ### Shipping addresses before the label A verified address with coordinates is an address a carrier has less to complain about. Every return caused by a wrong postcode costs postage, time and an explanation to the customer. ### Finding a company through place search Instead of plain geocoding you can use Google's place search. It finds a company by name and city and returns the phone number, website and map link alongside the address, which saves a good deal of typing when creating a record from a business card or an email signature. SetupOne Google key and a few decisions ---------------------------------- The prerequisite is a Google key with the Geocoding API enabled, stored as an environment variable or encrypted in the settings. To use place search as well, enable the Places API in the same project. Then you decide how far the clean-up should go: whether phone numbers are touched, whether addresses are only checked or also overwritten, which format numbers are stored in, and whether the map appears in the address view. Fetching favicons is a switch of its own, together with the choice of which image collection the result lands in. A token for the service behind it can be stored optionally. ### Requirements - A Google key with the Geocoding API enabled - The Places API as well, for place search - A Google billing account, since both interfaces charge per call - A decision on the target format for phone numbers - Optionally a token for the favicon service LimitsWhat the package does not do ---------------------------- Google is the only geocoding provider wired up. Another service can be added, but that is development work rather than a setting. Coverage, accuracy and price are therefore whatever Google charges for them. Checking happens when something changes. An address untouched for years is not revisited on its own. The cache is also keyed on the exact spelling, so an address with a typo triggers a fresh and therefore billable call. The package brings no duplicate detection. It will not tell you that a contact already exists at a cleaned-up address. And a phone number it cannot parse is left exactly as it was rather than flagged as broken. All packages included --------------------- All premium packages are included in the Nuxbe license.
